POET OF CHAOS • Time: Sure ... I got time to hear your story ... is it a sad weepy one? Do I need a Kleenex? • Yeah, well, now that you mentioned it, it is, in fact, a funny story ... OK, well, not like Las Vegas Lounge Act funny ... or Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show funny ... but, well, funny to us ... see, way back in 2021, we had this idea to make a new, original, magical album with a real Peter Pan / Alice in Wonderland kind of vibe to it. We didn't pull it off. But, we DID make "Storybook Dreams" which, to this very day is considered to be our finest hour (which is translated as 'our best album') ... far and away, our classic. Problem was ... Roland wasn't on it! Yeah, see, he was still recording all of his bits for the previous album ("Unfinished Business" ... ah, which was, you know ... "unfinished" - at the time ...) He had like a half-dozen vocals to add to various songs and was recording each, at his own pace, at his Fresh Pond Studio in New York ... so, while Sal and Bob were waiting to receive and mix in his vocal bits, they decided to do a fresh, new recording of a bunch of new songs that were, in fact, un-recorded ... "A Time Killer" ... so they did ... really knocking them out at record speed! Sal played all the instruments and Bob recorded it and engineered it and, before you knew it, there were 14 squeaky-clean great-sounding tracks! But, no Roland. Sal and Bob excitedly played it for him as he was working to beat the clock on the remaining 'Unfinished Business' bits that he still had not delivered. Did he like it? Sure! Did he mind the fact that he wasn't on it? Sure did mind. Got pissed! Then, he got mad. "So what? Youse guys don't want me on the albums anymore? Youse guys just wanna do it all yerselves? Fine. I quit!" And he quit the band. He didn't even say "See 'round the clubs" like George did or "I want a divorce" like John did. Just sent a nasty text. Sign of the times. He didn't stay gone long - I think Sal and Bob clocked him at around four and a half minutes ... and yeah, he was back ... They (of course) embraced his decision to "come back" and heartily encouraged him to send over whatever songs he had - however many - and they'd get real busy real fast getting them recorded real fast ... and you know what? Like a machine gun he began to spray them with awesome new material (it was a lot like Sonny at the toll booth in The Godfather) "This Stranger's Room", "I Don't Want To Sleep Alone", "Remorse", "Worried About You", "Vanity", "Whispered The Fool", "Love Is A Sickness", "Your Eyes Gave Me Your Answer", "True Crime", "A Clever Boy", "I Can't Carry You", "There's A Light" and "Ferrets and Drainpipes" ... oh yeah ... and one called "Poet of Chaos" (which was one of the first sent, BTW) ... these songs ended up spread across three albums: "Storybook Dreams", "Bombs Away!" and "Sifting Sands" ... and they certainly were all snapshots of Roland flexing his song-crafting muscle. Sal got involved adding fancy chords, music, structure, arrangements, bridges and choruses ... you name it, to each song and sure enough, "Poet of Chaos" (because of its unusual story and unique structure) rose to the very top! A slower, longer version of it picks up as Song 2 on Side 1, just as Sal finishes "Until Then" ... It fit the new "Storybook Dreams album perfectly and has become the staple performance on Side 1 ... but, here in 2026 , as we prep each and every song - old or new - for radio play, we need to be mindful of certain things: In this case, we sped it up quite a bit and cut out one of the original verses - just to make it a more radio-friendly length. Oh, yeah ... and (at least) one of us decided to make it a lot more avant-garde by ... well, ... ah ... er ... um ... well, by adding some CHAOS to it ... next stop: Sound Effect City ... and backwards masking - just like The Beatles used to do in 1967! YUP! Welcome to the 2026 Remix: The Avant-Garde Version that fights Roland's vocal on every level - and in many cases WINS! Even his great voice wasn't enough to hold off the absolute barrage of Sound Effects created for this new "monster" ... Oh, and how did the OTHER two feel about these creative liberties being taken on an already extraordinary song that DIDN'T NEED any help or change? What was that, fellas? Didn't hear you ... come again? OH! I see. I didn't hear you because you DIDN'T say anything, eh? So, I am, for the record, taking that as a "NO COMMENT", then ... OK, anybody still laughing. Did anybody even laugh at all? It was supposed to be a quote/unquote "funny story" ... Well, it sure took a lot of time to tell. They say "Time will Tell ..."
